I’m really excited for an event happening tonight that I helped plan! The event is called “Uplift: A Spoken Word Event.” This event is a collaboration between Alianza Latina, Umoja and Black Artists Alliance. This night of spoken word will feature five poets who will all be sharing original work on identity, their culture, society and more. Our poets are women, non-binary, Latinx and Black. I am so happy to be able to put on an event that will have people who can speak to the experiences of these different communities.
I am especially proud of BU School of Theatre’s very own: Dev Blair and Ireon Roach. These two are talented artists whose words are powerful and must be heard. It has been really lovely to see Dev grow over the past couple years and decide to pursue spoken word this past year. They are so good at creating opportunities for themself and giving themself a platform. Dev is thriving and I am so proud of them. Ire is just a freshman, but she is already making such a huge impact on this school. She’s a powerful, talented, intelligent and driven. I am so excited to see what the future holds for her because I know she’ll do amazing things. I know these two put a lot of passion into their work and I really hope as many people as possible can come see them.
“Uplift: A Spoken Word Event” is tonight, from 7pm-9pm in the Conference Auditorium on the second floor of the George Sherman Union.
